Diplexers, description

Diplexers are devices that separate signals by frequency. A Diplexer is a 3 Port device: one Common and two Input/Output ports. One Input/Output port is the High Frequency connection while the other is the Low Frequency connection.

Diplexers allow two different band radios to share a single antenna, or a single radio to use two different band antennas. Thus, diplexers are very useful in integrating communications electronics: for example, one can share a long coaxial cable run to receive VHF and UHF signals. With a single Diplexer, a VHF and an UHF antenna can be be connected through the diplexer to a common coaxial cable and wideband receiver capable of both VHF and UHF operation.

Two Diplexers may be used to connect two radios to two antennas, using a single connection (coaxial cable). For example, a VHF transceiver and an UHF receiver or transmitter connected to a VHF and an UHF antenna, sharing the same coaxial cable. The two diplexers are connected to each end of the coaxial cable being shared.
